A simple and hearty dish of stewed sauerkraut, boiled rice, fried minced meat and sausages, stacked in layers and baked in the oven. This dish of Romanian cuisine resembles both bigus and lazy cabbage rolls at the same time, which is not surprising - in many national cuisines there are similar culinary ideas.

Transylvanian cabbage can be made from sauerkraut or fresh.
Step by step photo recipe Transylvanian cabbage with rice, minced meat and sausages

Let's prepare Transylvanian cabbage products.
If the sauerkraut is too sour or you don't like sauerkraut, you can pre-soak it or rinse it. Sausages can be used like hunting sausages - long and thin. Minced meat can be used pork, chicken, beef or mixed - whatever.

Finely chop the onion.

Fry the onions for a couple of minutes in sunflower oil (we will leave a little onion and a little oil for the minced meat).

Add sauerkraut and paprika to the onion. Pour 125 ml of water and simmer the cabbage covered for 15-20 minutes.

Cut the sausage into thin slices.

Fry the minced meat in sunflower oil along with the onions left.

Add tomato paste, salt and fry the minced meat until tender.

Boil rice in salted water, rinse it.

The ingredients are prepared. Now we need to stack them in layers into a baking dish.
Lay out a third of the cabbage with the first layer.

Put half of the rice on the cabbage.

The next layer is meat. We spread half the minced meat and half the sausages.

Apply a thin layer of sour cream. Repeat all layers. Lay out the cabbage with the last layer and grease it with sour cream.
We bake cabbage with rice, minced meat and sausages in the oven for 25 minutes at 170 degrees.
